The Kawau Emergency Response Trust (KERT) was formed to raise funds to purchase and maintain the basic equipment necessary for first response teams to endeavour to contain and control an emergency situation, until help reaches the area from the mainland. Emergencies can take the form of medical, fire and civil defense, and can happen both on the island and in surrounding waters, on boats, jet skis and other pleasure craft.

Ongoing fund-raising is necessary for purchase and maintenance of medical and rescue equipment, and all donations will be gratefully received.
